Force touch not working

I recently replaced the battery in an i watch 1 due to swelling and popping the screen off. Replacement went fine with no issues, I also replaced the Force touch sensor as per the directions, again no real issues. After charging and booting up the touch screen is not responsive to touches, crown wheel works, side button works but not the touch screen. the following is what I have done,

hard reboot of watch, reboot of phone, reboot of both, checked all software updates, unpaired watch and deleted phone connection then re connected. removed screen again to verify plugs and all is well with no damage. any ideas? is it possible the supplied force touch sensor is the problem?
