iMac internal DisplayPort header on Logic Board—replacing broken pin?

I have a Logic Board with exposed pins where the internal DisplayPort connector should be. The female connector ripped off and bent some of the pins. When I attempted to bend the pins back and reattach the connector, one of the pins broke off:

If I had a replacement header pin, I should be able to solder it onto the empty pad and reattach the connector. Anybody have an idea where I can get suitable pins?

Ouch! This is not good ;-{

Sorry to say you can’t buy the pins, all you can get is a replacement connector with all of the pins. Even if you replaced the single pin the reliability of the connections is not assured when you’ve pulled off the insulator as you did here after re-threading it back on.

Given how easy it is to replace the full connector with the proper tools and technique I would just replace it. Now I’ve done tons of connectors so I have the skills, are you up to it?

I think its wise to let someone who has the proper tools and skills to do it. DIY can only go so far … Sorry ;-{

Hi Dan, thanks for the quick response. Replacing the entire connector sounds like a good solution, I think I'll give it a shot. Do you know where I can get the replacement part?

@harenbrs - Use small tip soldering iron and solder-wick to remove the remaining pins and clean the solder off the pads and the two anchor pads. Clean off the board so its fully clean. Now add a bit of solder on the two anchor pads with a bit of flux and use medium tipped iron (you need more heat mass) place the pre-tined connector in the correct alignment and carefully heat the anchor pads so the connector is flush and in the correct placement. Then with flux on the pins take a well loaded iron and drag solder adding more solder to the tip as you go. You need a soldering iron which can hold its temp as you'll lose the heat as you go. Some people use a special bar tip so you heat up all of the pins at once!

Go back and check for bridged pins and clean off the flux and any solder balls.
