My iPod went through washing machine. Won't play.

Following iFixit directions, I’ve started disassembling it. Previously, when I plugged it into the Air USB port, its contents were readable and replaceable. But when I install new songs/synch, it won’t play. I’m not sure but does not seem to take a charge. New battery? Logic board? Both?

Yeah a good guess would be the battery

Did you open and clean the thing with 99% alcohol

door

Thanks for your advice! I buried it in rice for 5 days. Have not cleaned it with anything. Not sure how to do it with alcohol. Brush it gently? Soak it? Anyway, 99% is not available here. Only 91%. Please advise further. Much appreciated!

Um... brush it. I don’t know if 91% will work but is it high quality? It’s all about preventing accidental links between circuits. 99% alcohol means that there should be less impurities to be left behind, causing unwanted linking and shorting.

door

Don't know about "quality". It's standard rubbing alcohol from a pharmacy. If you thing it will do more harm than good I'll order from Amazon.

Again, thanks for you advice!

If it’s really value to you, don’t take chances, if it’s not, then 91% will probably work

@cschroeder okay first off you need to know that Rice absolutely, positively, 100% does not work. It does not do ANYTHING and will only give you a false sense of security. Check on here https://www.riceisfordinner.com/ for a good explanation.

Next. You will need to totally disassemble your Shuffle. Use these guides iPod Shuffle 1st Generation Once disassembled you have to clean it properly. Use something like this guide Repairing iPhone Liquid Damage It was written for an iPhone but all the points still apply to your shuffle as well. You will need to use a high grade of isopropyl alcohol so it cleans and evaporates properly without leaving conductive matter behind. Once it is properly cleaned, you must replace the battery. There is no way around it. It will give you issues if you do not.

Even with all of this, it may never be that same again. Water damage is the most complicated to repair since you really never know where and what part may have shorted out etc. At this time you got nothing to lose, so might as well just give it a good try and see what the outcome will be.
