there is an audible click at roughly 2 sec interval

I have a kitchenaid KRMF7065ESS01

It has been operating intermittently for a while. there is an audible click at roughly 2 sec interval from time to time when it is not working. When it is doing this, nothing is working, not the lights, not the door water/ice, etc. I can sometimes get it back by power cycling w the breaker, but seems to be having these episodes one or twice a week for several hours. The unit is 3 years old. Help me.....

Mine is doing the exact same thing as grants and it’s the same model. When the lights go out in the fridge and the ice/water stop working, the control panel still lights up. Mine also stops cooling and when I unplug it and plug it back in you hear click and then it start back up. Help Please!

tiffymuzzey & grant, the light switch could be the problem. There might be two switches for each door. One you will see around the opening. The others might be under the hinge covers at the top. Unplug the unit and check the connectors. Make sure they aren’t loose. You should use a multimeter set for ohms and check the ohms on each switch. The door switches operate the lights and ice/water dispenser.

Mine is Kitchenaid krmf706 it will stop dispensing ice or water, though the dispensing control lights work but the lights go out inside It starts making noises like it is sending Morse Code to someone. I can reset power and after a minute or so it will reset but I have got to find a permanent cure for this.

Grant, the clicking is not good. The compressor is either pulling too many amps and the relay is cutting it off or it’s overheated and the relay icutting it off. Is the compress hot to touch? If you have an amp probe you could check the amp draw and know for sure. That would be the only way to diagnose the compressor. If the amps were good than the relay is bad. If amps to high compressor failed.

@ladytech

Thanks so much!

Should the amps be labeled on the compressor? Do you happen to know what it should be?

Thanks for your help

Ok

Pulled it way from the wall, pulled covers off, Un plugged and plugged back in. And wham! She’s working again. Pulling 1.3Amp compressor not excessively hot but it has been running long

Grant, glad to hear you got it going. Those compressors might pull 4-5 amps at the most.

1.3 amps is good. The condenser fan should be running when the compressor is, and off when the compressor is off. Coils clean? If so, compressor shouldn’t get to hot to touch, condenser coils should stay a little warmer than room temp. Refrigerant should be flowing properly and your refrigerator should be at temperature within 24-48 hours.

My kitchenaid KSCS25FSMS01 has the same problem as Grants, but my lights work and my freezer and refrigerator stay cold. The sound bothers me so I put mine on Holiday mode to stop the clicking and the from fan going off and on. Could it be the master board?

Hi @grant52,

Not having any lights is a good indicator that there is a problem with the power.

Are there any lights on the main control board when the fridge is "dead"?

is the clicking sound coming from a relay on the board?

Be safety aware when checking as there may be lethal voltage on the board
