How can I fix a black screen and little informantion in viewfinder?

Hi there. I purchased this camera yesterday in an attempt to repair and sell for profit, but I'm kind of stumped. It isn't saving pictures, the screen seems to be dead, and in the viewfinder I usually only have err on the bottom left and [ ] on the right, no battery indicator, no shutter information. I have changed batteries and SD cards, nothing. Any ideas would be wonderful! Also I have looked on other forum sites and tried the fixes they mention but none have worked yet.

EDIT: I think that it is the cord going to the display that is causing the issue, but I can't test much of the settings because I can't factory reset it. I need to have the screen to do that.

You say that "It isn't saving pictures," presumably to the SD card, is this correct?

Have you checked what is actually stored on the SD Card or have you just try to view it back in the camera’s LCD display?

What happens when you connect the camera to a computer?

Is it being detected at all by the computer?

If not and there is nothing on the SD card either if you've taken a picture, and then looked at the card using a card reader, then it's sounding more like a motherboard problem than an LCD cable problem

If it is being detected by a computer and there are no images on the card or if there are and they are all black then it may be a CCD sensor problem or a motherboard problem or both.

If there are images on the SD card when using a computer then it still may be a motherboard problem or a faulty LCD cable or display.

Does the camera look “damaged” e.g. from a fall or like it has gotten wet at all?

Here’s a video that shows how to replace the LCD display in the camera which may be a bit of help.

Yes, there's been a couple SD cards I have tried.

Can't use the display, I have only used a card reader

I haven't tried connecting it to a computer and I don't have it with me, I'll try this later

It probably is this one, which really sucks.

There's only one scuff on one of the bottom corners, could have been a drop, or it could be from sliding against rocks. If I can post pictures I'll upload one of the scuff and let you decide what it's from. To my knowledge there were no drops or water damage, how ever we bought it second hand as a project to try and fix.

Yeah I'm not sure, I opened it up and everything looked perfectly fine.

@samfoxc169

OK but did you try connecting it to a computer and check, you didn't say?

@jayeff shoot I completely forgot to. I've had a hard week, I just had a tooth pulled and I've been trying to get back into everything. I will try that today.

Give yourself a break. Let your mouth heal a bit first without having to worry about trying to fix a camera. It'll keep

Cheers
