Why does cooling fan run when door is closed?
As soon as I close the door the cooling fan and light come on. No magnetron or heat. Otherwise the unit works normally.

What is the model number of the oven?
Usually this problem is caused by faulty door interlock switches or door switch operating latches.
There are normally 3 switches and they are a safety device that prevents the microwave from operating when the door is open.
Search online for (insert model number) parts to find the switches etc.
Be safety aware when working inside microwave ovens, as the HV capacitor can store >6000V DC for months even if the microwave has been disconnected from the power. This amount of voltage can be lethal or at least can cause serious injury unless the capacitor has been discharged correctly before attempting any repair
