Microphone is broken after upgrading ssd

Any idea where i can get that part?

the ribbon is so fragile, looks like it broke

thanks

Update

After changing the microphone for a new one it is still the same problem, no idea what happened, i was being very careful inserting the flex cable on the board.. when removing the original one i pulled it instead of removing the tiny latch because i did not know

Any idea?

Thanks

@dubcode

It sounds like it is the ribbon that is broken.

Can you please add a picture of how the ribbon looks? Voeg afbeeldingen toe aan een bestaande vraag

@dubcode

Ohh, I forgot that you mentioned that.

Look if you can find a small part off the old ribbon in the connector and add a picture of the connector on the board by following the guide I sent in the comment above.

Can you also add a picture of the connector on the board side without the ribbon inserted?

Since you have a new cable, the cable shouldn’t be the problem.

Start with disconnecting the ribbon and look if a part of the old ribbon may have got stuck in the connector. Then connect the ribbon again by inserting it again and make sure it is all the way in without using that much force, then close the latch to lock the ribbon in place.

If this doesn’t help, a local repair professional should be able to replace the connector for you without it being extremely expensive, make sure to ask for how much they think it will cost before. (I'm not 100% how the connector looks, but it should be possible)

Hope this helped you and good luck! :D

Thanks Erik, the cable up there is my original cable, do you see something wrong with it at the connector?

Thanks

Happy to be able to help! :D

Sorry, it's really hard to tell if it's bad or not from that picture.

Hi Erik I just decided to reopen it I feel motivated to repair it, please see the new picture thanks

@dubcode

I don't see anything obvious, but I'm pretty new to this so I can't say that there's nothing visible.

It may also be something else that I haven't thought about that causes the problem.

Sadly you knocked off a small SMT device from your logic board!

Thanks Dan, I suppose it’s difficult to fix ?

door

Not really just need to find it ;-}

It will take some effort to find the schematics and boardviews to identify what it was, then its just a matter of getting it and then carefully soldering it on.

Do you know somewhere in Canada where they could do it? I realized I should have never opened that computer, thanks

door

@dubcode - Canada is such a small country! ;-}

You'll need to give me a bit of a land mark like nearest major city.

I am in Ottawa, Ontario

Thanks Dan

Hi Jordi! Make sure that the tiny cable near the bottom right of the logic board (if it has one) Was inserted and latched in. Also, make sure that the tiny little holes on the chin of the iMac, where the display rests aren’t covered by adhesives. Anytime I’ve had to replace adhesives. I always make sure that the tiny little holes, if they have holes on that model, are not covered.

In my case it was a small resistor that was broken by mistake, lesson learned to be very careful when touching the logic board
