How to retrieve photos from phone when buttons don't work

Hi everyone, can you offer any suggestions here please - I have an old phone Sanyo PM8200 which I haven’t used for a long time but it has a lot of important photos on it. The phone still charges and turns on, and but the buttons on the keypad and menu button don’t work so I can’t get into my photos to save them to my pc. I bought a data cable with a USB so that I can plug it into my PC and the PC recognises its plugged in but I can’t seem to get any further. While I am savvy, I am by no means a whizz so any help anyone can offer would be fantastic. I thought if I when into my computer folder that the USB would show up and I could get in that way, but it doesn’t. Does anyone have any ideas? Cheers so much.

Hi @gardenfreak

You could try replacing the keypad and see if that works and enables you to navigate through the phone.

Here’s a link to the ifixit Sanyo-PM 8200 Motherboard Replacement guide which shows how to remove the motherboard but part of the process is to remove the keypad, so this should be of some help.

As an example here’s a link to suppliers of used PM-8200 phones, one of which could be used as a “parts donor” phone. Worth a try if the price is right.
