When hanging something When finding the stud

Where do you put the screw or nail right where the stud finder lights up ? Or around it (silly ?but i don’t get it )and i’m scared i might do it wrong and hit something like live wires its to hang in my bedroom I live in a upstairs apartment if that makes a difference. Please help Thank you

Wires generally don’t run at eye level. They run horizontally where the wall electrical receptacles are. They also run vertically straight up and down from the switch plate. Put your hanger right in the center of the stud.
