I bought a iPhone X and it is stuck on the unable to activate screen with a blue triangle with an exclamation mark.
I have done a restore/update view iTunes but it hasn’t made a difference!
What does the phone need for it to get past this screen??

Is the IMEI displayed on the screen when you click on the blue (i) symbol on the bottom right of the screen which is located on the lock screen?
If not, this is a baseband fault without the IMEI listed it will not activate. Since it was bought like that, it’s no good to get it repaired as it’s quite expensive ($160>+) for a chance of the phone being iCloud locked after fixing the baseband part.
The little balls that connect the two boards together is probably what is causing the problem, they all need to connect together properly on each ball or else problems like this occur due to a bad connection:
