Since I first posted this question (nearly two years ago), we’ve been getting along fine with our Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G-5762 hooked up to an external monitor. However, we’ve reached the point where we really need to address the issue, so I hope I can get some additional feedback to help me feel more confident that we can do a fix on our own.
With the exception of the display, it works almost perfectly (possible aux/headphone jack issue, but I need to look again to make sure it's not user error). Here are some troubleshooting steps I've taken so far:
Held a flashlight up close to the screen. There are no signs of a faint graphic images when powered on.
Checked that the display cable wasn't knocked loose by disconnecting/reconnecting it, making sure to feel for two clicks when reconnecting.
Disconnected/reconnected the display cable that connects to the motherboard.
In this photo, the machine is powered off. Do the lighter portions of the screen confirm that the LCD display is cracked?
Here is a screenshot of the System Info page, and can pull Device Manager info if needed.
Here is the Specification Sheet, which I pulled from the exact Amazon Listing from which the laptop was purchased.
Here are some other photos of physical damage.
Do you guys think it just needs a new LCD Display (which I feel I can handle) or do I need to have it looked at by a pro? I’d hate to drain a lot of money on something I can do myself, but without being certain, I know I could end up spending more money if it’s not as simple as the LCD.
