Why does my MBP heats up rapidly?

After booting up, all it takes is 10 to 15 minutes to reach a "boiling temperature"! I use SMC Fan Control to monitor my fan speeds and the temperature. It shows temperatures up to 70C.

If it were mine, I'd open it up and blow the fan out. Next I would tear it down to the heat sink, clean the vents out and replace the thermal paste. Here's how to get to the heat sink: MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo Model A1211 Heat Sink Replacement

This is a fairly common issue with laptops. If there isn't enough airflow, heat builds up very quickly. The heat sinks in laptops are notorious for getting clogged up. If you smoke or have furry pets, this can compound the issue further (and goes for desktop systems as well). Just remember, should you replace the thermal compound between the processor and heat sink (as recommended), that you thoroughly clean the old stuff off both the processor and the heat sink before applying new. This is important!

I had to solve exactly the same issue at this device, and clean it up was the solution. there was so much dirt in the fan, it was incredible!

I would open up your action monitor and see if you have an high CPU usage from any of your applications or plug ins. I have the same issues with mine running flash(like youtube or netflix). I have had issues where the flash plug in took 75% of my CPU. Check that and if everything looks fine when its hot then that is not the problem and would follow mayer.

Hope it helps!

I would take the machine to the apple store and ask them to vaccum the inside and clean the vents. What happens is that the vents get clogged and the combo of that and the incorrect soder on the chips eventually leads to the chip failing. I see like 10 a week with this issue. On my MBP I vaccum the vents every few months

Update

keep in mind an "anti-static" enviornment and vaccum is what you need. I wouldn't open it and use a regular vaccum
