Asking from Europe: Data Recovery

Dear ifixit community,

My Iphone 7 Plus is stuck in recovery mode. And I don’t dare to use TinyUmbrella or others, just in case it goes worse.

Before this happened:

  • I was stuck in ‘press home to upgrade’
  • then I could only fill in my password and would be send back to the
  • ‘press home to upgrade’ screen again

I went to a local repair shop who told me that I probably had an issue with my Motherboard. They didn’t have the tools/knowledge to fix that so I took my phone home.

I tried to open it and this time I could enter my phone, see my photos and everything, but only for maybe a minute. My icloud wasn’t logged into. So I filled in my icloud details quickly to make sure I had a backup, if the connection remained. But unfortunately my phone shut down again. After this I haven’t been able to access my phone at all. Therefore I tried updating itunes which resulted in ERROR 9.

Nothing on icloud only a desperate mom (me) searching the web for a solution. Does anyone have an idea on a possible diagnosis? I know it has to be opened up to be able to diagnose, but maybe there are similar cases that you know?

PLEASE HELP :‘/

Possibly the nand or nand power rail to do with memory

Gekozen oplossing

Error 9 is a pretty serious error as it is usually NAND/EEPROM related. The question is, why did this error occur? If it is caused by a bad component or voltage rail supplying one of those IC’s, it may be "easily” repairable. If the issue is caused by data corruption in the NAND, then for all intents and purposes, the data will be lost forever even if the phone is potentially repairable.

The only way to know for certain is to have it looked at by an experienced micro-solderer. Don’t trust your data to obscure or low-balling techs. There are several reputable micro-solderers on this forum and many more worldwide.

Thank you so much for answering. A week before this occurred my phone fall on it's screenside. The glass near the HOME button cracked but it seemed to function as always. So I wasn't in a rush to get a repair for the screen. This accident might have been the cause, I think.
