Samsung UE49KU6400 shadow issue

Hi,

I would appreciate any advice regarding faulty Samsung TV UE49KU6400UXXU. We have it for 2 years now and before few days dark vertical shadow started appearing on the screen. If TV is cold and you just turned it on you barely can see it, but if TV is on for about 5-10 min. the shadow becomes highly visible. Not sure if it is coincidence, but after shadow becomes visable TV's back at almost same place as shadow becomes warm. You will find several pictures attached with test photos in which the shadow is highly visible. Any ideas what may cause this issue? Quite strange as shadow is vertical. If it woud be horizontal I would guess it can be faulty baklight strip, but as it is vertical it would be strange that all backlights on all strips in one vertical line became faulty. I would guess that T-Con board became faulty, but not sure if such issue may relate on it. Already tried to remove all cables, picture tests, reseting the settings, but no success. Any suggestions, ideas are welcome.

Any more ideas or suggestions on this?

I have the exact same model and the exact same shadow on the same location!! Do you know what caused the issue, and did you resolve it?

door

Before I forget, I also have the TV for just two years, the thing failed just out of warranty. Coincidence?

door

Bit late remark, but problem is the LED backlight. (led strip with a row of led's) Some led's are defect, so at these that explains the darker regions.

The ledstrip is located at the bottom of the screen. The television has two ledstrips, on for left, and one for right..

buy led bar on ebay for like 30 euro replace and ure done !

@kuzavas

that looks like failed LED’s on the edge backlight strips. Sometimes a bad power board can cause this as well by not providing the needed voltage to the strips. In this case it looks less likely to be the case.

Thank you for the response!

If it would be backlight strips issue wouldn't it be horizontal shadow? As the backlight strips are placed horizontally, but not verticaly. In this case it is vertical shadow what confuses me most.

Power board isn't so expensive so it might be worth of trying to replace it. Just the TV back will be a bit messy to open as it is screwless and has some plastic tapes to avoid damaging by opening.

door

@kuzavas when LED(s) fail on an edge backlight you get a very prominent wedge shaped shadow. If the same LED on each strip fails you would generate a darkened vertical shadow....

door

The part of how shadow becomes vertical is quite obvious. I was talking more about probability that on each backlight strip the LEDs fails on the same point all at the same time. It sounds very unlikely as it does not relate on each other as it is in different strips. More sense makes that power board or t-con board fails to deliver specific voltage to the strips and as the result of it there is not enough power to supply all LEDs properly.

Anyway thank you for your effort!

Commenting on this thread to add that I've created a manual for fixxing this problem (Samsung Television UE49KU6640 Backlight Replacement). Had the same problem with my Samsung 6 series curved tv. One of the LED's was not making proper contact which caused a quarter of the backlight to fail (exactly the same as you). By leaving the TV on while it has this problem other LED's overheated and melted part of the backlight spreader. So don't use it and get it repaired!

Samsung are no longer manufacturing screens Logic bought them out, yeh

Powerboard is NOT the issue here, only a ledstrip. To replace this, you need to dissasemble the television fully to get to the strips.

You can replace a strip where the defect led’s are on it, or replace the led’s themself, but you need to know what your doing. It takes some skills.

I have done this many times..

Good luch..

Just Curious, I have this same issue, did this get fixed by using the advice above?

Thanks

Our Samsung is 30 months old with the same problem with shadowing, we were told the screen was at fault. A new screen has been fitted at some cost. We wrote to Samsung approx 6 weeks ago and have had no response. (So much for customer service!)

My samsung 55 inch smart TV just got the same problem. TV is just under 2 years old. Called Samsung and they offered to extend my 1 year warranty so as it can be repaired under warranty. Waiting for the repair company to get a replacement panel. Will post back with an update.

Did you get it fixed and are you in the UK mine just out , but was going to claim under the consumer protection act rather go your way

Sad, mine is doing the same. Not even two years old. I used to love Samsung. Thought their only problem was their garbage appliances. Time to get rid of everything Samsung.

I believe it to be the diffuser sheet. Melted, needs replaced , Samsung no longer do the parts.

I didn't see any damage to the sheets as I removed them to replace the backlights. But my right side that was dark, did have a bad backlight strip. I replaced both, since I learned long ago, do not fix half, but also parts that are likely to go bad, so you don't have to do the work twice!!

Our UN55NU6900 had the exact same problem at 11 months old. Samsung came to the house and the tech had everything he needed to fix it on the truck. The tech said this series of TVs had a problem but the new screen and all the other parts he put on the tv were quote as " new and Improved and will last just as long as my other 4 Samsung TVs have lasted. At that time 3 of our working SAMSUNG TVs were 10 + years old. 2 years after this tv was repaired under Warranty the exact same thing happened again but now SAMSUNG won't do a %#*@ thing. 3 years ain't even close to my other SAMSUNG TVs, obviously, SAMSUNG has a serious problem. I am looking for a class action suit to join if anybody knows of one. From what I can tell from my research a class action is the only way to make SAMSUNG do the right thing.

door

I would certainly support a class action suit against Samsung . As theyve knowingly continued selling faulty TVs with a known issue since 2018..

I have two samsung tv's this is kinna long bare with. I purchased the first from Tech for Less company it is an 8 series 65" brand new , open box. It arrived a day late. I had saved for my first TV like this so I got one. Still i tried to shop smart, found a reputable company, so much so Amazon paid for the TV I paid them back. Opening the box with my phone taking pics., it was apparant the TV had been hit by, I'm assuming a fork lift. So the company pays me back in full and says keep the TV. I thought hell yes. Didn't know the screen, to have shipped, is more than the TV new. Ok Soni keep that TV in a box and say screw it I'm paying all the $$ I want my %#*@ TV today. So the son and I load up for best buy and return with a 7 series 65" I am not lying the TV in the middle of a game flash twice and gone 1 week after the warranty and Samsung would not touch it!! So indo repairs.

door

I've learned a lot since, but thinking I have replacement parts I just swap the screen over to the first TV everything works screen is good no pic. Exactly like it was with the other tvs guts. My point is all the money I've saved and 1 weeknthey wouldn't help. That was two years ago and I'm gaming on a 42". I take full responsibility for

Samsung needs to be held liable legally for this. They ripped me off by selling me a faulty tv. I purchased it 2.5 years ago!! Eff Samsung!!
