Red light flashing four times

Hi, my Sony KD-65X9000B TV won’t start up, it just has a red light that flashes four times and no other response. The components on the power board look mostly ok but there is a slight smell around the top left of the board near the capacitors and diodes up there and it looks like heat has affected the insulation on those primary/secondary coils.

On the backside of the board there also looks like heat stress around those diodes.

Any suggestions, should I try to re-solder?

Thanks for looking.

@batfink066

this is a bit hard to make out but it appears as if D6602 and D6603 are lighter and slightly grey in appearance (could also be totally normal just bad eyesight on my part;-). could be an issue with bad diodes. If nothing else I would replace those first. Use a multimeter and check the outputs to the main board on connector CN6401. Use the legend below it to see what values your board should show.

Thanks oldturkey03. I've measured the outputs on CN6401 and I'm getting 3.5v compared to 3.3v expected in the standby section but 0v in the 12v area.

I've also pulled all four of those D660x diodes out as they we measuring .144/.144 in both directions in circuit but once removed are behaving normally with readings of .450/OL.

I was thinking of buying an in-circuit capacitor tester if you think it's worth it?

Cheers.

In circuit testing of capacitors is unreliable, only when all loads are disconnected is it reasonable. In lieu of removing caps, I've cut a thinner trace spot, tested then bridged it back.

The flashing LED is a diagnostic code.

4 blink code relates to either the backlight inverter board (circuit on the power board), the backlights in the LCD panel has failed, as well as the LD board or main board. not the most conclusive diagnostics.
