How to replace the hinges?

The tablet fell off a table and now the right hinge is not working right. I am unable to fold back the screen. I looked online and found replacement hinges and it look like it would be easy to get to the hinge connected to the keyboard end. Wondering how to get to the hinge connected to the display end. There is a section at the bottom of the screen half that looks like, if removed, would give access to the hinges. Anyone know the best way to remove that cover strip?

Here is a pic of what Im trying to get at. The strip that is right above the hinge and below the lcd screen.

When laptop hinges go, unfortunately it's rarely the hinge itself but the plastic it's screwed to which is broken. Ifthat's the case then your only hoe may be to glue it back together with 2-part epoxy glue, building it up as reinforcement around the break.

Great point, and very well could be true. I guess that leaves me with getting to the hinges to see exactly what is wrong. And that leaves me at the how. not sure how to get to them.

Been a while, but I was able to fix the hinge.

I found a site that had instructions on how to take the tablet apart, on this site no less.

Samsung Chromebook Pro Hinge Replacement

Opened it up and saw that it was indeed the hinge that was broken. I wasn’t easy, but I found a site that sold the hinge (Global Direct web site, OEM Samsung Chromebook Plus XE513C24, Pro XE510C24 Metal Hinge Set). The part was on back order and finally came in earlier this week. I was able to replace the hinge and it is back to original working order.

Thanks to all who helped me during the process.

There are a few Youtube videos covering disassembly. From a quick glance it looks like this one is what you want:

That, and the other Youtube's I've found are for an older model of the chromebook.

Really this is something I would let a repair shop do. But if you want to do it yourself use Ebay. Take it apart to see what you need, go on Ebay to get the parts, and install them.

In my experience it's practically never the hinge itself that goes. The screws that fix it to the case go into brass bushes sunk into the plastic, and either the bushes pull out of the plastic or the plastic breaks. This is a weak point in a wide range of laptops from many different manufacturers.

You need to take it apart to see the extent of the damage. Your best hope is if one hinge is still largely intact and the plastic on the other is still sufficiently intact that you can accurately locate the broken hinge with screws and bushes still in place into its proper position. You're not likely to have much success if you try to glue the bushes back into the plastic then screw the hinge back on as it's very hard to position them sufficiently accurately. (To be continued)

With the bushes (and possibly some bits of plastic) still screwed to the hinge, cover the base where the bushes have pulled out with 2-part epoxy glue then press the hinge, bushes and screws complete into position. You'll have to do it with the screen open at 90 degrees so the force on the hinge is purely vertical. Leave the glue to set for a good 24 hours before trying to further open or close the screen. You should be able to reinforce the plastic in the whole area with the glue, but take care it doesn't runn anywhere where it'll interfere with other parts and maker reassembly impossible.
