The display screen goes dark when trying to download!

How can I fix downloading problem? The display screen goes dark and the camera turns off if I try to download images. I have replaced batteries; the camera works fine otherwise. Help!

check that your batteries are good. many times have put what i thought were good batteries in but they weren't..also check the contacts for your batteries aren't flattened or corroded.

Thanks for the tip. Changed batteries 4 times and contacts are good, but not luck. Tried taking out the batteries and memomory card overnight. After reinserting them in the camera, the display screen came on for about 10 seconds in the download mode, but then went dark again. But, found out I could insert the memory card directly into my laptop for downloading the images. Worked fine. Too bad it I can't do that on my desktop computer where I do all photo work. Well, I guess that's what thumb drives are for!!!

i'd have suggested that but thought you were trying to avoid it! well done. if the batteries and contacts are good then I'd imagine the next place to troubleshoot would be the cord itself for the pc.. the rest of the camera works so...?

Rose Anne, you can purchase an inexpensive memory card reader for your computer. Check ebay.com or geeks.com I use mine all the time and the card reader enables me to use 9 different cards on my desktop. It's the thing to have with all the different devices and cards out there. Good job in at least getting the pictures to your laptop.

Roseanne..I had this once (brain has just fired up while having problems with my camera!) turned out it was the driver for the camera on the pc was old. just try updating the software on your computer, then you'll have to reformat your memory card in the camera...

Try switching to another USB port(s), perhaps one on the back. Not all USB ports carry enough amperage to power or charge things. The USB specification that manufactures must meet is about high speed data transfer, not about powering or charging external devices. For various reasons not all USB ports carry enough current to power or charge external devices. I believe your camera was designed to obtain it's power from the USB cable when pictures are being downloaded.

If changing the USB port you are using doesn't solve the problem, there is a good chance your USB cable is bad- replace it.
