LCD and glass replacement question

In the process of replacing my LCD/Digitizer. I have ordered one on line and while watching a video the guy showed switching over the “open sensor”. My new LCD has a spot for this, but my old pad does not seem to have one to switch over. will this be an issue? Also, I have to replace the home button. The video mentioned having the security reprogrammed. will the new button work as a home button with the programming?

For the sensor, if you have an original iPad screen, it should include the sensor. If you replaced the screen in the past, by yourself or by a shop, it is possible that it wasn’t transferred over as it requires some soldering. Ideally it should be there but it’s not a big deal, it’s mainly for detecting a smart cover that should turn off the screen when closed.

As for the Home Button, if you transfer over the original button, then it will retain everything. You have to be careful not to damage it while transferring otherwise you will lose Touch ID if you have to put a replacement button in its place.

I damaged the original button. I have never used the touch ID. Only used as a home button. Ordered a new one. Waiting for it but now concerned it wont work.

There is no reason an aftermarket home button will not work on it. You just have to be careful not to damage it while installing. I’ve gotten a lot of defective home buttons at the shop I work at that didn’t work out of the package.
