How can I get Bluetooth to work on my Huawei P9?

Bluetooth isn't working on my P9. I've tried restarting the phone, toggling airplane mode on and off, checking that apps aren't automatically turning it off. I'm out of ideas on how to fix it. When I try to turn it on anywhere in the system, it starts off dimming as if it'll turn on, but then I either go out of the Bluetooth section in the system settings and see that it's still off, or close and reopen the notification shade and see that the Bluetooth shortcut is either still dimmed or still off.

My phone is model number EVA-L09, running EMUI version 5.0.2 and Android version 7.0.

I've got a slight idea as to a possible reason that Bluetooth isn't working on my phone. My idea is that as lots of the stock apps are missing, that could mean that some internal files could be missing too, such as the ones that would allow Bluetooth to work, or at the very least, turn on.

Hi @joshywooful ,

First try starting the phone in safe mode and check if the BT now works OK.

If it works OK then a downloaded app is the cause of the problem. The trick is to find out which one. You’ll need to uninstall each downloaded app, one by one and test the BT function between each uninstall until it works correctly. When it does the last downloaded app that you uninstalled will be the culprit.

If it still doesn’t work when the phone is in safe mode then try resetting the phone back to its’ factory default condition and then check if it works OK

Be aware the a factory reset (also known as a hard reset) will erase all your data and downloaded apps. It will restore the phone to its’ factory default (or last system update version) condition.

It is important therefore that you backup your phone before performing a hard reset using the phone’s backup feature.

Once you have backed up your phone, ensure that the battery is fully charged, that the charger is disconnected from the phone and then perform a hard reset

Once the phone has been reset, check if the BT function works OK.

If it still doesn’t work OK then you have a hardware fault.

If it now works OK, restore the phone from the backup you made earlier using the phone’s restore feature.

Once the phone has been restored, check if the BT function still works OK.

If it does then the reset has resolved the problem.

I've tried to get my phone into safe mode before, but the option to go into safe mode never shows up for me. I just tap and hold on the power off option (even for up to a minute) to try and get the option to show up, but nothing happens, it just keeps on saying "Touch to power off". I've also tried it with the restart button, but the same thing happens.

Hi @joshywooful ,

You may have to try the factory reset option (remember to backup first, if you can).

Hopefully the phone will still allow you to do this

I've tried factory resetting the phone twice already. Lots of the stock apps are still missing, and Bluetooth still isn't working.

Hi @joshywooful ,

You may have to re-install the Huawei stock ROM.

Hopefully this link may be of some help or check online for how to install stock ROM for your exact model.
