Screen flickered, and is now always dim.

Today my boyfriend was playing video games on his samsung 3D TV, and after 3 hours of playing, he said the scree flickered then went dim. It did not go off or anything, it's just much dimmer than it used to be. We tried changing the brightness, contrast, blacklight, picture settings, as well as turning the eco and energy saving off. Nothing has worked. We also went to the different inputs and they're all the same; very dim. When we turn on the 3D setting, it does go bright for a split second, then is dim again.

It was about 47C with the humidity today, and he was playing for a while, so we're a bit worried that the heat may have done something.

you did not tell us if you still have sound. If you do, it is possible that you have either a failed power board or that the backlight array has failed. To figure this out, you would have to remove the back of your TV set and check the power board first. Take a picture of all of your boards and post those with your question. That way we can see what you see. Use this guide for that Voeg afbeeldingen toe aan een bestaande vraag If it is the power board it can either be repaired or repalced. If it is the backlight array you will have to disassemble the actual panel to gt to it. Not to complicated just very tedious and it may be difficult to find the backlight strips. Don’t give up yet, I am sure it can be done.

i have the same problem with my phillips Direct lit LED TV. the problem occured after 2.5 years . So i suspect its either the individual led strips lost their luminance due to wear and tear or the power supply is getting defective. sometimes it could also be the Gamma IC. chip or mainboard.

U can try doing the following:

change the power cord and/or power supply ( if its external)
Check yr wall electrical socket or change it to newer ones .

@ktvhdlimited would you are to elaborate why you would suggest something like this "change the power cord and/or power supply ( if its external) Check yr wall electrical socket or change it to newer ones ." for a flickering screen. This is a dim screen that had most likely backlight issues. Nothing related to the power outlet or even the Gamma IC. I just wonder what your way of thinking is and maybe I can learn something new here.

Hi there , like someone earlier mentioned to me these issues in this topic:

Screen uniformly dim. Briefly got back to normal then happened again

can be caused by the power cable , wall power socket and even the dirty power supply to yr home. Sometimes the circuit breaker box in yr home is just too old , malfunctioning ect can cause such issues as well
