Yep same problem here. Replaced screen only to be stuck on Apple logo. Tried to restore the phone a few times and once it turns off and on, the logo loop would come back.

Inspected the home button flex and found the ribbon had a tear. I’m guessing (hoping) this is the reason. Will be heading to Apple here in Australia and hoping for a relatively cheap fix, as I’ve heard they can replace the button and screen to match and work again for under $200

Get a out of warranty replacement phone from Apple (Will cost a quite a bit), once the home button is ripped it's game over.

to the original poster:

The iPhone 8 home button function is gone forever,Not only is the fingerprint gone but the actual functionality of the home button cannot be restored by anyone but Apple as the Actual home button itself is now paired with the logicboard. The same goes for the fingerprint scanner.

Now too answer your main question in which you are concerned with,Try plugging in the home button flex cable even if it is broken and hopefully it will work.If for any reason it’s not helping than replacing the home button with a random one and a dfu restore should solve this issue so that you can atleast use the phone with Assistive touch.

Too find assistive touch go to settings,

Tap general,Tap accessibility and then finally scroll down until you see the option to toggle Assistive touch.

Good luck

Apple can repair button and fingerprint without any problem. But if they see the manipulated telephone they will say that it must be changed completely.

I'm not sure that the iphone 8 starts without a home button. I have one here that does not start without flex sensors.

I have the same issue phone is severely damaged. I don't care about the home button working but was wondering if the home button is required during the boot process. It is stuck in a boot loop. I can get it booting after a factory reset but after it boots once it starts to boot loop again. So back to the question. Will an iPhone 8+ be able to boot without home button?

Thanks in advance

No; 8's and onward go through a hardware test every regular boot (excluding first factory boot after restore/etc). If anything (and generally the home button is the thing that causes the issue) is not working, it simply boot loops indefinitely until everything is functional.

I have the same issue, fingerprint has small cut, the phone not booting, then I gave an experienced software engineer and he did it…the phone now is ok but fingerprint not responding again, I'm using assistive key.

I had the problem I repaired my phone myself new replacement home button new screen. Fired it up and stayed on boot mode. But then I use Dr Fone got it into DFU mode connect to Itunes logo disconnected from the lead and and plug it back again and opened up Itunes and restored it thru Itunes… You have to change access to voice talk thru Itunes as you don’t have a functioning home button…

I had the same problem until a minute ago and that’s how I found this post. If you have the tools just replace it with a replacement home button (doesnt have to be from apple) it will pass the boot loop and phone will turn on. After it turns on phone will automatically turn on assistive touch right above the actual home button so you can use that instead because home button functionality and touch id wont work. iPhone also displayed a message said something like “Home button needs service” and of course “Unable to activate Touch ID on this Phone” . Good Luck
