Toshiba Laptop Screen Will not come on

The computer starts but the screen will not render - it is Not black screen but bluish lines - keeps flickering but does not complete.

This problem has been progressively becoming worse (over years)- earlier it would finally come up: with delay of some seconds, then it became minutes, now it does not complete at all. No error - no message - just flicker. But earlier when it finally used to come up - it would '''work perfectly great after that.

'''

(I also recently upgraded to Win10 - but this issue should be unrelated - the issue predates this upgrade)

@samt1 the bluish lines tint is most likely proof that the backlight still works. I would suggest you start by connecting an external monitor and see what that will display. If it displays properly you are most likely having issues with your screen and a replacement should resolve this problem. You should also check the wiring going to the display.

If an external monitor does not display anything you have issues with the GPU circuitry on your motherboard. That repair would most likely require a new motherboard, unless one can find the schematic to your motherboard to troubleshoot the components.

Thanks.

Tried this.

Connected to external monitor(TV) with HDMI, used the F5 button. This renders both on laptop and external monitor.

Rendered the same on both after some blue lines/delay- finally the Laptop did came up.

So is it GPU/Mother Board issue?

Is replacing motherboard a DIY. Is it even worth replacing? The laptop is 15”/i5/8GB/1TB/Win10 – it is 7-8 yrs old, had replaced the hard disk 3-4 yrs ago, and battery 3-4 months ago. It works absolutely fine when it comes up (whenever it does).

I essentially use is as a backup machine. But it is becoming too unreliable even for a backup – random/long delays for startup are just too annoying.

So what next?
