How to fix a stuck camera lens

A while back I accedentally dropped my camera, and now the small lens that came with it has trouble zooming in and out, it can if I really force it, but it can't do it automatically, it just makes this really awful grinding noise. I can't really afford a replacement or to get it fixed professionally. Any tips on how to fix it myself?

Not easy to take it apart to either repair and/or cleaning it. You will definitely need a well organized way of fixing it. I'd be looking at the 2nd lens group and see if the grooves and gears are still okay. This manual will help you with the task NIKKOR-18-55mm-3.5-5.6G.pdf
