Why there isn’t any A1355 tutorial? HDD upgrade.

I’d like to upgrade my 1TB TC (A1355) with a 3 or 4 TB HDD. I read on internet old posts describing some issues performing this upgrade. Which HDD I should use today? Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance.

The tear down on the A1302 should be the same as they were only made 6 months apart.

Here's how to change the hard drive out: Apple Time Capsule Model A1302 Hard Drive Replacement

You may need to see if it has the Apple priority heat sensor that Apple started using in mid 2009. If so, you can stay with the same brand of drive or probably use the sensor cable for your specific brand, Seagate, Hitachi and Western digital that were used in the iMacs.

Many thanks for the answer.

Do you mean I cannot use the same cable for any HDD brand? Maybe I misunderstood...

Apple used a special sensor cable which was designed for a given vendors drive so a Seagate cable won’t work on a WD drive. This is independent of the SATA or power connection which is standard.

I would add some drives pull more current than what Apple used so review the drive your TC has now to figure out what your new drive need not exceed.

@rx78 I am specifically talking about the hard drive temperature cable. Apple started using hard drives with priority temperature sensors in Mid 2009. No matter what the intent of Apple, its affect was to stop off-the shelf hard drives to work correctly without getting run away fan issues. Since we do not have a tear down of this exact model I cannot tell if it has been effected. You will need to look at the hard drive and see if the temperature sensor plugs into the drive next to the SATA plugs or is attached to the drive (usually in a little plastic attachment bracket and held in place by tape. If it plugs in, it is one of the newer drives and will need a specific cable. Those parts are:

Seagate 922-9216

Hitachi 922-9215

Western Digital 922-9217

Is there any way to understand which kind of HDD (brand) is mounted inside my Time Capsule, without opening it before? Thanks in advance.

I have an A1355 on which the hard drive just died. Opening it I found it was not using the proprietary temperature cables found in iMacs from the same time, but an external temperature sensor taped to the hard drive.

What if I wanted to put in an SSD instead? Apart from the fitment what would be the best way to deal with the heat sensor?
