Is my Backlight filter blown?

I was working on my phone as it has touch ic disease, and until i got the money to fix it i was placing a little piece of stock paper under the heatsink that fastens agaisnt the sceen connector ribbons(done this before with no problems). The phone was working right before this, I had even fixed the front camera earlier that day, and when i try to turn it on that screen is black. When I plug it into my pc it detects an iphone but iTunes doesnt show the usual iPhone menu. When I turn the phone on I can feel the touch ic area getting warm/hot (not too hot i can hold my finger on it) and windows detects the phone as stated earlier. I tried turning off every light in the room and shining a bright led flashlight on the screen to see if I could see anything and no dice. I know I forgot to disconnect the battery (also just to mention i did try unplugging and reconnecting the batter after the screen would not come on) rookie mistake. Before I buy the repair serivce on ebay (which gives me no refund if ive misdiagnosed the problem) I'd like to confirm with a community of what I consider experts that it would most likely be a backlight filter issue.

Are you in the USA? There are plenty of reputable micro-soldering repair shops that work on a no fix/no fee basis. Why send it to some unknown entity on eBay that charges you no matter what when you can deal with a real shop that stands behind their work?

Well, I'm on a limited (college student) budget and the services on eBay are very cheap. Yes, however, I am in the U.S

That's fair...however if you pay someone one no matter what and it turns out you haven't solved the problem, you'll have to pay again. It's your choice, you have to do what's best for you.

Definitely not. Most likely case here is Long Screw Damage from trying to force the LCD shield to cover a foreign object. Bad LCD is a possibility, but less likely. The 6+ has two independent backlight circuits, it would be incredibly rare to take out both backlight filters at the same time, and even then, you should see image on the screen just not backlight.

If it was backlight, you would see something when shining the flashlight on the screen, so I don't think thats the problem.

Do you think it might be the LCD? I hope so it would be so much cheaper to fix

I agree with David, If it was backlight only...You would still see the screen and be seen in Itunes normally.

Putting foreign objects into your iphone whether Electrical tape, cardboard, a sim card, etc...are all bad ideas as it can flex the motherboard or LCD.

If it were only your lcd, Itunes should still recognize the phone. Not a diagnosis... but sounds like the small flexing from pressure on board could have caused a solder joint to become disconnected somewhere.

As Minho explained, sending off to Ebay just doesn't make much since at this point. I would find a reputable micro-soldering repair shop to 1 fix the touch IC(s) and maybe they would have a kind heart and repair the other issue as long as it's not the CPU.

best wishes
