7200 RPM drives in mid-2011 iMac

Would it be safe to upgrade to the 7200 RPM drive in this iMac or would overheating be an issue?

And would it require a temp sensor to make it work?

Here's what you need to install any third party drive.

For better performance go with a SSHD.

Without the OWC sensor the fans will run at full blast.

@pccheese Corporal George Would like care to work with this the new recruit Ethan? It's Tuesday and I generally like to give them till Friday before evisceration. He may show some promise as he deleted another answer, so it appears he may be teachable. Maybe you can show him the ropes. First lets get him down to just one account.

Yes, sir. I wrote a comment asking him to contact ifixit about his accounts.

An upgrade to a 7200 RPM drive would be no-problem, Just be sure to purchase a fan control software because apple's Hard Drives have special temperature probes.**iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2428 Hard Drive Replacement

@ethanstiles1 You've never done this on this model have you? Were the drives Apple priority? If he changes brands will the old sensor work. If he gets run away fan issues what should he do? Would an SSHD serve him better? Frankly your answer will lead to a lot of possible issues.

@mayer sorry, you would need fan control software because this model has an internal temperature probe in the hdd not a external sensor, my bad
