iPhone 7 Dead On Arrival

iPhone 7 came in. They said it wouldn't come on, and has been off for weeks. I installed a new display, and decided to test a known good battery, instead of waiting for the old one to accept a charge. It does not come on, and the board is extremely hot. I unplugged and left on the charger for 20 mins. Doesn't come on, but doesn't get hot either. I'm concerned about leaving it unattended on the charger. Also I tested the display and battery on a different phone. All seems good. Her old display comes on, LCD is trashed. There are some holes in the glass, but top left, not too right, where the board is and no signs of water damage

Go bare board and add modules until you understand what is drawing excess current. If it's just the bare board, then start at the beginning and look for shorts or partial shorts. It sounds like this phone took a beating so it could be anything really.

BTW it's @refectio ;>) (maybe we should create a @TheMedinho account ...naw, TPTB might not like it )

Don't have a bare board, or anything like that, really, for this situation. How could I have messed that up!?!?!

My plan at this point @refectio, is to first get consent from the customer, which I don't really need as the board is pretty messed. Tear off the shields and see if I can get any kind of an answer. Gotta put those needles back on my leads

door

I meant connect just the board with nothing but the battery (and after, the dock) and see if things still heat up.

Sorry, I misunderstood after our conversation of bare boards. Getting it out now, and seeing what's going on @refectio

door

Yep @refectio no display, just charger and board, gettin crazy hot. Tried a different Lightning dock. Same answer

Check all the main voltage rails, and can you be specific about what part is heating up? It might burn you accidentally, but the trick I use all the time is to put the board up to my face and see what parts heat up the most.

It's the top. Yeah, I do that as well. I haven't taken the board out yet. Not super sure if there's any non invasive fixes for this problem

Pop it open and use a thermal sensor gun to locate the villain. IR Thermometer

door

Will do tomorrow @mayer after that, I'm gonna guess next will be removing the shields and seeing if anything is missing of out of place, and as @gigabit87898 said doing some testing

door

Yep board is measuring everything above the fpc connectors at 125 degrees farenheight
