Swap the HD for a SSD guide?
Any chance of a guide showing how to swap the stock PS3 Slim HD for a SSD?

SSD and hard drives should be detected the same as of what the PS3 should see. You should be able to just follow a hard drive update guide and have it work fine.

Any suggestions as to a brand/spec to get? I'd like to stay in the 60-100GB range.
I bought 2 of these WD 64gb drives about 4 months back and have had no problems as of yet. Very fast compaired to even my old desktop hard drive.

For a test on speed I copied 1gb of larger files from the ssd to its self and it made the copy in around 20 secs. On my old drives they took well over 60 secs.

I swapped out the 60GB HDD in my 2007 launch PS3 for a PNY 128GB SSD. I didn't do any speed tests as such but it is obvious that the game saves and loads in GT5 are very considerably faster. There are some YouTube videos showing no perceptible difference in PS3 performance with an SSD than with an HDD, but my experience was positive. It may depend upon the game but why that could be I wouldn't know. GT5 was greatly improved, there is no question about that.
