To answer your last question first, you can replace the "wifi flex cable" which is the board and ribbon that connects the touch screen. Only 3 things I can think of, the plug on the ipod is bad, the touch screen controller chip is bad (on flex cable), or the ribbon got pulled up and lost connection with the logic board. It is basicly taped on with special tape and isn't hard to pull too much on it. The wifi flex cable is around $5-10 and the tape is expensive, but on ebay you can get a 6 foot peice for around $10. Also just a side note, of my experence, the LCD screens requres the ipod to reboot to show up correctly (when dissconnected or changed), but the touch screens seem to always work right away for me. Good luck and let us know how it works out!
Meer informatieI know this is old but I wanted to give more of a complete answer. 1st check if the laser moves when the lid closes or first powered on. If it don't move then most likely it is the two switches that detect when the lid is closed. The one in the back side of the system near the middle is common to have issues, soldering a wire from one side to the other will work well and I have done it several times. 2nd we should beable to rule out the switches so now the question is, has the system been worked on before. If it has, the ribbon cable for the motor that spins the disk is common to get messed up where it plugs in. 3rd If everything appears to be working correctly but the disk won't spin, try a CD in it. It is very common that the cause is that the system don't "see" a disk in the drive and most common media is DVD so that is what wears out. If it reads the CD fine, then most likely it is the laser. 4th Just to note as above, there is a small break for the disks and if that is not released when the lid is...
Meer informatieI have had this happen in the past. If the drive is not lined up perfect when being put back together, it will be misaligned and wont accept disks in. When it didn't accept them in, it would click and cluck trying to take the disk in but since it was out of alignment it never goes in. One good question is.... did it accept disks before you took it apart. If it did, then it should be a simple fix. If not, then it could be a previous person working on it, or the drive's circuitry is messed up. One fix is to take the drive apart and try to get everything lined up and happy again. It takes a few times to get it right, but you should be able to look at photos or videos of opened drives to see where everything should be. Worst case is to replace the drive even though I'm pretty sure it isn't bad. Good luck, and let us know if you get it working.
Meer informatieCheck your dock connector for any damage. I have one here where the pins of the connector are loose and stick up a bit. If I carefully plug it in, It works fine, if not I normally get the same issue as you, charges but wont detect in iTunes. If it appears damaged, you will want to find someone to replace it since it requires special tools to remove and replace the connector.
Meer informatieIf the ribbon cable is plugged in good, make sure you reboot. It is about like the screens, the ipod has to reboot to see that it is connected.
Meer informatieThere are a few ways to fix this, but I would guess the easiest way would be to solder a 30 gauge wire from the back side of the home button (goldish colored contact) to where the metal spring use to be to make the connection. I can't tell if the contact was lifted or not in the photos though. If it is lifted and soldering it is impossible, you will need a multimeter and attempt to find a dead short connection to another location you can solder to using the good board you have in the second photo. It might be tricky to find a solder point, but I would think somewhere on the board there will be a connection. Good luck with your fix.
Meer informatieFantastic website! So far every part there is a lot cheaper than eBay. In fact I think this could be where a lot of the auction items come from lol. Thank you! ~Update~ I had a chance today to take a working ipod nano 5th gen and put the battery in one of the dead ones. After trying a few different ways to power it on / wake it up, I took a reading on the battery. It read 0.26v and the battery was charged enough to turn on the other ipod with out the charging cable. Sounds like that one has a short in the power circuit some where. Probably will be a donor board for another ipod with a bad usb port.
Meer informatieLooks like I might have answered my own question. The 2 coils on the back on the logic board read 0.3-5 ohms, which is normal, but the one on the front (guessing for the LCD back light) read around 2.155M ohms. I guess that is why I still get some voltage across the back light pins. Now I need my solder rework station here >,<.
Meer informatieIf you have a multimeter, check your solder points to see if they have connection. You should be able to follow the traces from where you soldered to find a good test place. It sounds like the ground, left, or right wire has a bad or no connection. I haven't worked on this model, if the headphone jack isn't soldered in, then I would check the connector and make sure it is clean.
