I wonder if 3Utools software can reboot the iPod touch to recovery while it's stuck on apple logo. It's worth a try because I know it can force a phone to reboot to recovery mode to do a firmware update even if it's not trusted via device to computer.

The BootRun has probably crashed in the software So you would have to restore the iPod because when you restore a device it deletes the software the reinstall it. And you need a home button to do that or go through settings then iTunes

I had one come in to my shop the other day with an issue like this and all it needed was to be plugged into a Mac computer and run the updates for it. I would try that before going into depth or replacing the device.

When a device is stuck on the Apple logo, the software is lost and doesn't know here to go. You need to put the device in recovery mode or DFU mode to successfully restore. Of course, you would need the home button to do so. A repair is a must for this device. Depending how the home button is damaged, depends on how difficult the repair is. If it doesn't click and appears stuck down, then the screen needs to be taken off and the black party of the home button clicked can be replaced without any soldering. If the button doesn't click but doesn't respond, then you have to take the device part and solder in a new home button flex cable which is not very easy. You can then put the device in recovery mode or DFU mode and perform a full restore to go back to normal.
