iPod Classic 6th Generation. Model A1238 / 80, 120, or 160 GB hard drive / black or silver metal front

One of the click wheel buttons not working

I'm trying to fix an iPod Classic with a broken click wheel button (play/pause). All of the other buttons are working. From previous questions I've seen people suggesting to replace the click wheel, but I'm afraid that won't solve the problem (since clicks are registered by the buttons underneath, black dots on this picture.

Is there anyone with the same problem that fixed this by replacing the click wheel itself? Or any other suggestions?

Thanks!

@lpirar one thing you can do is measure the switch itself. Attach the leads from your multimeter to the bottom two contacts, you should see that the switch does have some resistance, and total continuity when depressed. If the switch itself checks out okay, you may have to replace the clickwheel or at worst the logic board. Make sure that the clickwheel can make contact with the switch. Sometimes the little rubber bumpers on top of the microswitches come off and preventing proper contact.

Thanks for the information, I'll give this a try. Let's hope it's the clickwheel itself :)
