@gwenr Error F21 is a Long Drain error. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed. In addition, a “SUDS” error may also be displayed. This may be an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line. Unplug your machine for 1/2 hour to see if the CCU will reset. If that is without result check the drain hose for kinks or if it is clogged. After that check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running. Finally remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris like missing socks etc. remove the drain plug from the filter at the water pump.
1. Take off the lower front panel.Remove the bottom front access panel just remove the 3 Torx screws on front bottom of machine. Slightly lift the panel and pull the bottom towards you
2. Turn the pump filter cover counter-clockwise by hand and remove. Place a bucket or pan underneath it since you will get a lot of stinky, dirty water spilling out of there. Removing the filter should remove all water from your washer.

WORKED AMAZING -OUR WASHER IS WORKING AGAIN! We needed a lot bigger pan...lots of water came out! Thank you.
From someone who is not too handy, by loosening the screws to remove the font panel, it appears that implies tilting or putting the washer on its side to get to the screws on the bottom. Won’t this cause any water or mess to get everywhere? Is this just a consequence of not having accessible points to remover the cover? Hopefully I’m just missing something here.

@john.eckland take a look at this answer F02 Error Code HE3 Elite Washer on how to remove the front panel. you should not have to remove it from the bottom.
This information was extremely helpful last night when trying to fix my washer due to getting the F21 code (in mid-cycle). I spent over an hour cleaning the hose in the back of the washer and trying to drain whatever water that was still in the unit, but I still kept getting the error code. Right as I was about to give up, I came across your advice and it worked!! Thanks so much for posting this information, I greatly appreciate your help!
Oh Man, This is a great fix. I was so sick of my washer, I always got the f20 and f22 message. I would clean the hose and it may work for a bit. Today we got the f21 and I had no idea what to do. We ordered a new washer and dryer but it was going to take 3 weeks so I figured I would tinker a bit. After spilling all 5 gallons out I found a nursing boob pad from when my wife was nursing and some other junk. I am hopeful that this will solve the problem. I wish there was a better way to collect the water. I used a cookie sheet but I still spilled water everywhere.

So this is the second time in a month I've had this error message. Each time I've unplugged it and back again. Set the washer to Rince and spin, and its fixed it. Not sure what is the issue. Possibly heavy item as I had a bathroom mat in the load.

Sam l Boehner possibly but could also become an issue with the drain pump. Keep an eye on it when you do a "normal" load. See what it does.
