Intellivision Music Synthesizer keyboard

My Intellivision Music synthesizer has a couple of "stuck" keys. (Notes continually sound even though no keys are depressed) I opened it up and cleaned the innards with compressed air to try and removed any dust and debris but the problem still persists.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,

This link talks about the synthesizer keyboard, here is a quote:

The synthesizer keyboard, on the other hand, is a diode-filled 49-key matrix. This allows you to press whatever keys you like, without restrictions, and without ghost paths. The piano keys are mapped to matrix points in a very straight forward manner, so I won't bother with a matrix diagram. The lowest note on the keyboard corresponds to Col 0, Row 0, and the highest note is in Col 0, Row 6.

At the start of the page, under Hardware background, it describes Introduction to Matrix Scanning which may be of some help to you.

Your problem, I feel, is possibly either a short circuit (s/c) key contact or a s/c between two key wires which is simulating it being on.

Hopefully this is of some help.

Jayeff, your answer was helpful but I have since found the problem, Like you said, it's key contact. Apparently, the adhesive that holds the circuit board in place under the keys, has given way and allowed the board to bow just enough to press the diodes against the nubs under the keys. Now if I can only figure out a way to re-attach the board to the frame. I don't want to use any glue for fear of damaging the board beyond repair. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Carl,

As I can't see what you can see, perhaps if you post some pictures there may be suggestions forthcoming from this website. Just guessing here but can you perhaps have a piece of wood e.g a ruler etc bracing the length of the board from underneath but longer than the board so that it can be attached to the frame either side of the board. Again sight unseen guess.
