Can an iBook G4 1GHz motherboard replace the 800 MHz?
I it possible to effectively update a 12" iBook 800 MHz motherboard with a 1 or 1.2 GHz motherboard? Is it worth it just to run Leopard?

Running leopard can be done without an actual 867Mhz CPU, and the extra 200-400Mhz from that motherboard wouldn't make it much faster. If you want to trick the installer into thinking it is a faster computer, here is a good guide (Note, you will need at least 512MB of RAM, or you can expect a really, REALLY slow computer.)

Back to the original question, I'm curious if physically the logic boards can be swapped.

I can't answer my original question, but the answer by Chris Green was exceptionally helpful. I followed the instructions at the website he linked me to and the installation for Leopard on my 800 MHz iBook worked like a charm. Thanks Mr. Green.
