Can I fix the increased noise is makes (+10DB) while cooling.

Dears,

This 5 year old combi works good, besides the noise it makes when cooling.

I has increased by at least 10 Db which is not pleasant in a open kitchen. When the cooling has finished there is a hard stop noise.

Is this something that could be fixed with a partchange or......

Thanks in advance for your help

Cause 1

Fan Blade

If the refrigerator is noisy or loud, especially when the door is opened, either the evaporator or condenser fan blade may be at fault. First, turn the evaporator fan blade by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, check to see if the blade is rubbing against something or if something is caught in the blade. Additionally, check the condenser fan blade to determine if it has any obstructions.

Cause 2

Evaporator Fan Motor

When the evaporator fan motor fails, it often generates a lot of noise. This noise will be much louder when the refrigerator door is opened. If the evaporator fan is noisy, replace it.

Cause 3

Condenser Fan Motor

There might be something caught in the condenser fan motor blade, or the condenser fan motor bearings might be defective. The condenser fan motor is usually located underneath the refrigerator near the back. Pull the refrigerator out from the wall and remove the access panel to access it.

Hi,

Do you know what is making the noise?

In a fridge the moving parts are the compressor (which compresses the liquid refrigerant into a gas), the condenser fan, (which cools the condenser coils), and the evaporator fan (which spreads the cool through the fridge/freezer).

The evaporator fan is in the fridge and stops when you open the door so I don't think that this will be the problem.

You have to get behind the fridge where the compressor and condenser fan is located and listen to which one is making the noise.

Once you determine what is making the noise, if it is the compressor for example, you can decide whether it is worthwhile to get it replaced, or repaired.

Also maybe you should check the warranty and also the warranty period on your fridge and see if it is still valid. Some manufacturers give a 5 year warranty on some major components in the fridge. e.g In Australia the Samsung warranty for refrigerator compressors is 5 years and refrigerator inverter compressors is 10 years but for the fridge itself is only 1 or 2 years depending on size. (under 200L or over 200L)

Here is a video of a compressor (not your model) just to show you the way it works. It is probably more noisy than it should be because the cover has been removed.

Hopefully this is of some help.
