Replace Fusion drive for a SSD

iMac 27" 5k late 2015

Replacing the HD from a Fusion iMac for an SSD samsung 850 EVO or PRO, Will I have the cooler fan speed up problem?

Will I need the "OWC In-line Digital Thermal Sensor for Hard Drive Upgrade for 27" iMacs 2012 and Later"?

By the way, it is hard to close the iMac display after opened? Using the ifixit.com "Adhesive Strips" will it looks sealed as came from the factory?

Yeah. Really seems I will need the thermal sensor. If I go on this for sure I will include in my list of purchases in order don't need to open it twice.

I discovered that the imac came with 2 free slots for a certain kind of ssd. I will research if isn't better to put those ssd there instead of replacing the other.

About remove the old adhesive. Any tips of how I can get a perfect cleaning? Isopropyl alcohol may help me? Or should I stand only scratching the adhesive with some spatula?

Really? I take it that you have never been into one of these.

Here's a few sources: Plastic razor blades to scrape off the old strips and here's the cleaner I use: Goo Gone which I use on a microfiber cleaning cloth: Disposable micro cloth towels

Take a look at he guides before doing or buying anything. I have changed the icon to get you to the correct guides. Trying to get by without replacing the adhesive strips is an exercise in futility. Use the correct tools and cutter or you will damage the machine. Understand your warranty will be voided as soon as you do this.

Make sure the in-line temperature sensor will work on your machine: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DIDIM...

Remember the old adage, measure twice and cut once. Study first!

Understand what a fusion drive is and that you are about to cut the baby in half.

When Apple updated the iMac and Mac mini in late 2012, it introduced a new storage option called Fusion Drive. Despite the name, it's actually two drives working in a special arrangement. It pairs 128GB of flash storage with either a 1TB or a 3TB hard drive.

Hi Mayer, why you told that? I don't need the ""OWC In-line Digital Thermal..." adapter? Or it is impossible to get great finishing with those doble face stickers?

Yes, Albert you do need the OWC thermal sensor if you are exchanging your HD for a SSD. The HD has a sensor unlike the SSD so you need to add it. I also recommend you get the correct replacement adhesive strips. You don't want the display unit to fall out that would be an expensive repair!

you would need that adapter to keep it quiet.

and if you clean the old adhesive very well and get it nice and flush you can make it look factory.

I agree with Wesley here you do want to make a good effort to clean off the old adhesive off before putting down the new strips. The tolerance here are quite tight, besides the effectiveness of the new strips depends on the surfaces being even and clean to one another (no bumps).
