How do I correctly CLEAR the CMOS?

I need to clear the cmos so that it will remove the Administrator user account password. My husband was the admin user and I have a standard user acct. Which was fine until my husband died and took the password with him. I cannot do anything without needing permissions or his password.

I have taken the battery out for 5 min then 10 & 30 min. Did not work. Thought i took off the jumper pin off and back on correctly, but now i am not sure after reading 2 of your posted answers from others.

There are 3 pins and the jumper go's on. 1 & 2. OR 2 & 3. So which set should it be on when i take it off then restart, wait 10 seconds then turn off again and put jumper on? 2 & 3 ?

When i did it, i was not aware their were 3 jumper pins. I just thought i would take it off, restart, turn off and put back in the same position( thinking it was 2 pins.) Soo i really dont know exactly what position it was on, in the 1st place. Please help. Thx

Sassyrru2, be sure the power is off, and switch the jumper to the other possible location on the 3 pins. Your "clear" position should be pin 2 and pin 3. Once the jumper is in the new position, power up, and the password should be cleared. Once you know it cleared, shut back down, power off, and switch the jumper back to original position.
