Nand flash error/ error recovering

Hi

Been given an iPhone 5c which someone has attempted to replace the screen themselves, by the looks of it, they have bought a whole unit with the flex assembly built on, as the copper tape looks untouched/brand new.

Anyway, 2 faults are lines going down the middle of the screen. And comes up with different errors when trying to recover (it's stuck on the "plug into itunes")

The lines was simple, looks like a faulty screen, as I put a my own on there and it displays without the line.

The second though, I can not get past the different itunes errors which point to the usual, try a different cable etc.

When it boots, apple logo shows up, and then you get the nand flash error 601, then it comes up with the error on iTunes.

I've disconnected the front camera, as that usually gets damaged, and I've unclipped every flex cable apart from the charging port so it can still talk to the pc.

Tried the host files, different cables, different usb slots, but the same every time.

So I've taken the rubber off where you would attempted lcd, and directly under where the face time camera will snap in, it looks like a resistor of some sort is missing? Could this be the problem?

The picture isn't brilliant, but it's where the bottom right screw hole is, 4th resistor from three right, just under where the camera plugs in.

Nice work, Duane, seriously.

This is a reasonable place to start, but I don't know for sure if it would solve your problem. My donor 5c board does have a component there, and it looks like a resistor as you suggest. The 5c schematic is a bit tough to find but it's out there--look on the Russian forums. I measured this component and it looks like it is a 2.2kOhm resistor there.

The 5s is quite a sissy about any kind of damage anywhere near the prox connector, so the 5c may be the same. I would definitely think it would be worth it to pursue that component.

I know from your email, that you're new, but interested in learning microsoldering---I'm not sure this is the best place to start because it is so tiny here and the inexpensive rework stations have a hard time heating up the tiny tips that you'd need here. Hot air is too close to the CPU in this spot.

Your best bet would be to invest in a high quality pair of hot tweezers for a job like this, with tips on the 0.2mm scale. I use Hakko FM 2023, but these are powered by an expensive station. You may be able to find something by Weller that will work for less. I would highly recommend investing in high quality tools from the start. After you have some mad skills, then you could probably get by with the cheap stations :)

Best of luck!

Welcome back Jessa :)

If you mean 1 cap on the far right, then 4 resistors left of those, missing one being 3rd from right? I can't see clearly. But if that's it, it should be R21, 2.2K, 5%, 1/32W MF, 01005 package. All the resistors on that line are the same I think.

It's the fourth from the right (next to the one with the slightly big blobs of solder)

Thanks.

Yeah I did come across those tweezers which plug into a station, but there was no way I would tackle this one as a first job. I have a couple of cheap android tablets that work, which I was going to practice on. I'll save the money up a bit more and get the decent kit.

Recouping a bit more cash now by doing glass only on the iPhone 5 range and galaxy S5.

appreciate the responses!!!

Yes, 1st to the right is a cap, then the 4 that follow to the left are resistors, same value.

Do invest in good quality tools. I use Hakko myself and am very pleased with it. Consider something that will expand into soldering + desoldering + tweezers.
