Screen entirely black after attempted replacement of display

I attempted to replace a cracked display and was unable to get any output on the screen whatsoever, even reinstalling the cracked display. I get output on external displays as expected. Has anyone else run into this? I did my best to ensure the display data cable was properly connected...

Did you replace the LCD assembly (with frame) or did you do LCD only and reuse old frame and backlight?

Yes, I attempted to replace the entire display assembly.

Was the cracked display working before you started?

It's probably the replacement screen you got. There's probably no backlight on it. Or I'm assuming you didn't disconnect the battery (common mistake most people make) and for that reason you blew the backlight fuse. I don't have enough exp with these MacBooks to say there's a fuse on the logic board but I know there is a fuse on the lcd (however, the black clutch has to come off in order to access it)

You can somewhat confirm this if you have a bright flashlight while the computer is supposedly on, shine it through the apple logo on the back. If you can see some picture then there's the answer to your question - no backlight

Luke Peter, for the location of the backlight fuse, check on here What is the correct surface mount fuse value for the LED..
