Random ghost touching when I hover over parts of the screen,

Hello! I have a similar problem here....

Symptoms: Random ghost touching when I hover over parts of the screen, specific letters dead/ unresponsive when typing (all letters in relatively the same spot),trouble closing and opening apps, and sometimes the phone does random movements and typing on its own.

When it started: I cracked my phone a few months ago, a few cracks went straight down the phone. A few days after i cracked it, the phone started having the above problems. The N H U J and I all are unresponsive more often than not. The problem then continued after I replaced my iPhone screen and flex cables TWICE.

Suspicions: We suspect the issue occurred when I cracked the phone, because the dead spots seem to be where the crack was. We are not sure if the conductive strips underneath the class top was damaged as well as the glass, but that's our best guess.

What I've tried: Replacing the screen and ribbon cables twice, restarting phone, restoring and completely wiping the phone. None of these have worked.

If anyone finds a solution or know the problem here, please let me know!

Hi Alice,

My advice would be to go through the below one-by-one and test after each step:

1/ Start by cleaning the screen connectors on the board and those from the screen with a cotton swab dipped in 90%+ isopropyl alcohol.

2/ Rule out the damaged or defective screen assembly (even if you've tried 2 different screens). Best would be if you could transfer a known good screen from another working phone to try it. Use this guide and be careful not to pull on the screen assembly while connected as it is very easy to ruin the connecting flex cables!

3/ Use a magnifying glass to examine the board around the area where the connectors of the screen attach on the board. There is a thin black nylon film. Remove it and look underneath it. Search for broken or missing components. If you find something, try taking a picture and post it here.

4/ If all the above fails, my next guess would be that the fall damaged the circuit and components on the board responsible for the touch function. Especially if it was hard-hit on the right side of the iPhone, ~1-1/2 inch for the top. That kind of damage requires micro-soldering skills and tools to locate and fix. If you reach that point and don't have the needed set-up and/or don't know any qualified technician, I may be able to recommend someone to give you an estimate.
