shmuellevy, if you are referring to the pack you insert the batteries before attaching it to the controller, there is not much you can do. Either replace the box, or place a few layers of aluminum foil on the bottom of each battery before you insert the batteries. The contacts coming from the logic board are springs and you can adjust those by stretching the contacts a bit.

The electrical contact at the bottom of the battery pack is not performing a good contact with the batteries terminals. The results is loss of electricity to the controller. This is not related to the battery condition.

This seems to be a common problem. I was just poking at an XBOX 360 that was heading for the trash. It came with the original model 1403 wireless controllers with the non-rechargeable battery packs. Putting two charged AA batteries in a battery pack adapter should give a series voltage of almost 3V. I measure only 1.2V! And that's the improved value after cleaning the contacts with rubbing alcohol, cotton swabs, and deoxit spray. Both controllers have the same problem. The other one is even worse at 0.7V.
I don't understand how something as simple as a piece of spring steel connecting the two batteries could go bad. Were there other electronics they stuck in the battery pack adapter that I can't see? Unfortunately, the plastic case was melted together (ultrasonic weld?) , so I can't find out without breaking it.
