My application refuses to respond to my commands, also refusing to go to the home screen.

Try to lock and unlock device (Soft Reset). If problem persists, turn device off, wait a few seconds, then turn back on. If soft reset does not work, see guide for Replacing Home Button. Once device is working again, close all applications and websites that may be too intense for device.
