The screen isn't working.

Hello guys,

I am new to here but I just recently found a computer we have had for years. I have tried to turn it on (yes it works and holds a charge) and it seems to turn on except for the screen. How do I fix this?

Thanks

Lockley16

P.S. I have no idea if this is the problem but it doesn't have a hard drive, is this the problem?

Lockley16, attach an external monitor and see if it works. If it does, you know that you have an LCD/inverter?LVDS cable issue. If it does not come on, you will have a GPU failure (common on this model) and may have to either reflow, or reball the GPU, or replace the motherboard. It will all depend on what you find. Hope this helps, good luck.

I don't have an external monitor. Is there another way of checking. Keep in mind I just found this computer and I'm not the most tech savvy. All I have are other laptops.

There is, but for that you would have to have a couple of tools, like an backlight tester etc. Easiest would be a different screen. Any TV's with VGA input? Any friends with external monitors?

Again, not tech savvy so please bear with me. The VGA input is the one cable that splits int three right. If so I have a couple of tv's to test it on. I don't have a backlight tester.

Nvm, the tv's and the computer have the VGA port but I don't think I have the cable, not a big deal, I can get one tommorow. It is 11:18 p.m. EST where I am so can't do it right now.

Try connecting an external monitor and see if it works out. In this case you need to check the LCD cable plugged on motherboard to make sure that there is no lose contact if problem still persist then you may need to replace the LCD.

If nothing is showing on external monitor even its turning on the probably your video chip is gone or alternately you can take it to some hardware shop to give a last try.

david chase, do you ever read prior answers? It appears that you are repeating an awful lot of answers without adding anything to it. You are also telling people in any of your answers to take it to some hardware shop, may be you could tell people how to fix their devices. That is why they are here.
