Food processor is not working

I got it as a gift but did not used it for over a year. Now when I want to use it, it does not work. Is there anything that I can look at, repair it myself, find out why it does not work?

Thanks

It would help if we knew the brand and model number. Also any symptoms would help identify the problem.

yes, sorry about it lol. It is Black & Decker PowerPro, 400 Watts, Model FP1510. No symptoms, it just does not work at all. The power light does not light up so it could be that power is not getting where it suppose to go???

Thanks

If the device was brand new it would have been tested ex factory and it's probably safe to assume it was working when boxed. Lets assume the plug fuse is ok and that the wall socket is also giving power, we move on to the machine. When you fit the mixer bowl to the device the bowl has a lug on the bottom that activates a micro-switch in the body of the machine. You should be able to hear/feel a click when you turn the bowl to activate the switch - perhaps thats the problem area.

BINGO! I'd bought mine used. It looks in good used condition. The micro-switch wasn't fully pushed. THANKS!

Look at the top of the handle at the spot where the lid locks to it. My handle is in two pieces the top black piece that attaches to a clear section. Immediately below the top of the handle about half an inch down there is a very small Gap where the lid locks to the top of the handle. I had to use a popsicle stick to shove into that Gap that allows that small piece interior piece that's below the top edge of the handle to be depressed and for the motor to activate. You must continue to apply pressure to the popsicle stick or use something thin and sturdy like a thin key, to keep the motor running.

My brand new B&D food processor wasn't working either. Thanks to your suggestion using the popsicle stick, I got it to work long enough to process my attempt at making a smoothie.

The thing that's supposed to click to make the processor work isn't long enough or just doesn't get pushed down or something. I'm totally going to have to return the processor. I'm so angry about it, though. Black and Decker used to be a good company that made decent products. Obviously not anymore!

Thanks for all the help and the explaining where the lid has to lock all the way in! I was fixing to throw this thing away!!!

I could not find a teardown of this. First thing I would do is check the wall plug. Second, I would remove the bottom and make sure that the power is getting to the engine. It could be a loose power connection since you get nothing. I voltmeter would help with this repair.

I had the exact same problem on the brand new B&D 12 cup processor.. I resolved it by placing a popsicle stick at the small arrow at the handle, turned it on and applied pressure on the popsicle stick to activate the little round piece that must be pushed down in order for it to be activated. Had to apply pressure with one hand while machine was activated which was a hassle but it finally worked! This is a defect in the unit obviously. But that little round metal piece has to be depressed and that’s the only solution that would work for me.

I must have another model, there was no arrow on the handle and no little bit of metal visible

The lid must be put on correctly. There is a plastic piece on the lid that pushes into the handle of the processor once turned. That in turn pushes the black lever down on the small button on the base. The small piece mentioned above being depressed by popsicle stick.

watch the video and fast forward to the time of 6:02 on the video. It shows how the piece pushes into the handle which depresses button on the base.

Use the tip of a pen or pencil. It has to be pushed deeper however it’s the lid that must be placed on properly or it will not work without having to use the tip of a pen or pencil.

to ensure that power is not the problem, remove the bowl from the base….press one of the “on” buttons.

Take a butter knife and slide it into the slit that leads to the button and depress the small button…the machine should turn on if there is power. Once you know that the power is not the problem , there are 3 points of engagement that have to be in order for the machine to turn on…..one is the bowl to the base (where that small button is) two is the lid to the bowl and three is the feeding tube to the lid….good luck

The base is ok, but I found that the bowl does not push the button in the base, the connection is too short. A new bowlis no longer available

I found that the part on the bowl is not connecting with the bit on the base, if I push the bit on the base the motor works, I tried to get another bowl from Kenwood , but they do not have them anymore, my bowl had a white handle, the replacements a black one, but they are now obsolete. I hope to find a way to do something about it, but do doubt my ability.
