Trackpad ribbon cable replacement?

I have been given a iBook G4 by a friend that had a harddrive failure and was too expensive to repair so she decided to get a new MacBook instead and gave me this old one in a bid to "convert me" to the Mac way of thinking :) Well in my effort to install a spare HD i had ,and following a guide that was not the correct one apparently ( not from this site) it looks like i have torn the ribbon cable for the trackpad accidently ( the guides here mention it,the other one didnt) so I am looking for a fix or replacement , the Apple store couldnt help with either , of course the trackpad can be abondoned is my guess and just use an USB mouse but i'd like to fix it if it is worth it $$wise.

Thanks Ralph that explains why i cant find anyone selling the ribbon cable only , so it might have to be the USB Mouse only ,unless i can find someone parting one out on ebay or something .....

In the for what its worth department I have always used a USB mouse with my laptops. Just don't like trackpads or pogo sticks. Ralph

Just buy the complete top case for the iBook 1.2ghz on ebay. Not very expensive. It will be easier to find than just searching for the trackpad cable or check with sellers that list many iBook G4 parts and contact them via ebay to ask for the trackpad cable. One member here, rdklinc, has many iBook parts. Maybe he can help you. You can send him a email thru ebay, check here:

It looks like this is one of those models where you have to replace the top deck to correct trackpad problems. Ralph

1 Opmerking:

I did find a Seller for a complete Top for mine on Ebay eventually but I got 1/2 scammed in that it was the same Top Cover, but a different attached Trackpad (different model) and speakers of another model. The Seller would not take it back since it was a "final sale" according to him.... so be careful.
