Hi,
my original xbox drive once turned on and you press the eject button, the tray opens and then closes constantly and does not stop unless you switch off the unit.
there is no way to stop it from opening and closing.
what do you see as the issue? do I need to replace my drive?

there are some sensors that tell the Xbox/cd drive that is need to be closed because of pressure or that it can't close. My guess is that those sensors are not working properly. For starters I would suggest opening it and cleaning the cd drive, there might be some dust or something there (and you might as well clean the rest while you're at it). If that does not work, you might have to replace the drive, which will be cheapest to buy a non-functional xbox and taking it out of it.
I don't work on xboxes so don't take my word as gospel, if anyone else has a better idea/explanation, go ahead.

If the Xbox casing is pressing to hard on the disc drive, it will cause this problem, as it impairs the disc drive pressure sensor, make sure nothing is pressing the disc drive before closing the casing after opening your Xbox :)
