No Wifi Connection

Your Roku 3 is not connecting to WiFi.

Incorrect WiFi Login Information

Ensure that the login information to your network is correct.

WiFi Out of Range

If your Roku 3 player is not connecting to WiFi, it is possible that the WiFi signal from the router is out of range. In order to strengthen the signal, move the router and Roku 3 so that there are fewer objects and walls between them. You should also avoid putting the router in the basement, near a window, or near other electronics that may emit interference. Do not place the Roku 3 device or the router in enclosed areas that can block the signal. You could also re-orient the router’s antennas towards the device. For the most reliable connection, you may connect the Roku 3 directly to the router via an Ethernet cable.

System Needs to be Rebooted

It may be necessary to reboot both the router and the Roku 3 player. Unplug both devices and wait 5 seconds before plugging them back in. Retry wireless connection setup.

Wrong IP Address

If your device is unable to connect to your network, check your IP settings for your wireless connection. Under Settings, go to WiFi and select your network settings. If the method to obtain the IP address is set to “manual”, change this to “automatic”.

Low video Quality

Your Roku 3 is connected to High Speed Internet but is streaming poor video quality.

Weak Connection Between Roku 3 and Router

To strengthen the connection between your Roku 3 and router, move your Roku 3 to a higher area or away from any other devices that may be interfering with the connection. If this does not work, update your router firmware. To do this refer to the section entitled “Applications Crashing.”

Speed of Broadband Connection

To increase the speed of your broadband connection, discontinue the use of any other devices connected to the network being used by the Roku 3.

Remote Control Not Responding

Your Roku 3 device is not responding to the remote.

Battery Needs to be Replaced

If your remote is not working, it is possible that the batteries of your remote are drained or are not functioning well. Replace the two AA batteries, if necessary, using this guide and the LED light on the front of the remote should flash if it is working properly. Once the remote is working again, the remote pairing dialog should appear on the screen.

Pairing Issues

It might be necessary to make sure that your remote is paired to the Roku device. Re-pair the remote to the device by pressing and holding the black pairing button within the battery compartment for 3 seconds until the LED light flashes and the remote pairing dialog appears on the screen.

Both Remote and Roku Need to be Restarted

You may need to restart both the remote and Roku 3 device in order to pair the two devices. Unplug the power cord from the device and wait for 5 seconds until you reconnect the power. Once the Roku loading screen comes on, remove and reinsert the batteries in the remote. Next, you press and hold the black pairing button within the battery compartment for 3 seconds while the Roku continues to boot up. Once done, check to see if your remote is working.

Remote Needs to be Cleared

It is possible that the remote needs to be cleared and re-paired. You will want to remove the battery compartment cover and unplug your Roku player. Press and hold the A, B and black pairing button all at once until the LED light flashes. The LED should flash three more times to indicate that the remote is cleared. Reconnect the Roku player to power. Now, press and hold the purple pairing button until the LED light flashes again to indicate that the remote is paired.

Applications Crashing

Your application crashes or freezes randomly while using it.

Bugged Application

If your applications are crashing or freezing often, then there may be an issue with the application. Try closing out the application you are currently using and open another one. Check to see if the problem reoccurs. If that application also crashes, then try rebooting your device. This can be done by unplugging the device, waiting several seconds, and then plugging it back in.

Roku 3 Firmware Out of Date

Your Roku may not be up-to-date to be able to the new updates to your applications. To solve this, go to the home screen and enter the Settings. Under Settings, select System, then System Update, and Check now. If an update is available, apply the update and check the functionality of your applications.

Updating Errors

The Roku 3 device will not update and an error message or code appears on the screen.

Firewall is Blocking the Connection with the Roku 3 Update Server

If your Roku 3 is not updating, you may need to disable firewall. To do this, log into your router settings. For Windows devices you do this by opening a browser and connecting to 192.168.1.1. That should be the default for almost all routers. Find the firewall section. Click that section and turn off the firewall.

TV Not Communicating with Roku 3 Update Server

The TV might not be properly connecting with the Roku Update Server. To fix this, you can connect to the secret screen and update from there. To get to the secret screen use your remote to press Home five times, Fast Forward three times, Rewind two times. Next, scroll to “Update Software” and click “OK.”

Power light not turning on

Might be accompanied by slight buzzing sound with power plugged in

Could be caused by power LED leads touching the RF antenna

Need to disassemble the Roku 3, and take out the motherboard following iFixit guide. Then make sure the black cover containing the white power LED is sitting upright, and that the back pin of the LED is not touching the antenna. You can remove the cover of the power LED and examine the pins. Try plugging in power after making sure the LED pins are clear.

Had trouble finding compatible card locally. SanDisk nor MircoCenter store brand any luck. On Amazon people have has success with Lexar and Kingston class 4. The Kinston is made in Taiwan and works. The Emtec at MicroCenter works, and happens to be made in Taiwan as well. Just sharing my experience. I am sure there are other cards out there that work too. Less than 8GB micro SD cards are hard to find locally.

The Roku 3 is proving to be very particular about the micro SD cards that it will accept. The Walmart Transcend (China) class 4, 4 GB micros do not work with my Rokus. They do work, even in their SD adapters, in my PC. So, why is Roku so particular about the micro SD cards that it will play with. I have sent an inquiry to Roku. We'll see what they say.

Installed a Samsung EVO 16GB Class 10 in my Roku 3, and it formated with no problems. It is working just fine.

If the Roku 3 doesn't work with a SanDisk micro SD card they shouldn't advertize that it works with SD cards. I can't believe how many compatability issues their are online with Roku and micro USB, its terrible.
