Note: This troubleshooting guide covers the LG CG180 cell phone and is not necessarily applicable to similar models.

Phone doesn't turn on

Consult this section if you are unable to receive any power to your phone.

Battery

  • The phone will not be able to power up if the battery is not present and installed properly. Check that the battery is not missing.
  • Be sure to establish a proper connection between the battery and the phone by clearing any debris between the two.
  • Connect the charger to a power source and connect the cell phone to the charger. Wait a few seconds, then press and hold the power button.

Power adapter

  • If your battery doesn't charge or doesn't hold a charge, and the battery is not dead, the power adapter might be the problem.
  • Ensure that the power adapter is functioning by trying it with an additional cell phone of the same model.
  • Make sure that you are using a genuine LG CG180 factory original cell phone battery charger.

Broken charging port

  • If the correct power adapter is being used and a functioning battery is properly installed, ensure the charging port is stable. Plug in the charger and check if the connection between the charger and the cell phone is loose.

Phone doesn't receive signal

Consult this section if you are unable send or receive phone calls or SMS messages.

  • Travel as close as possible to a cell phone tower (e.g. a populated area, a cell phone carrier's retail store) to guarantee cell phone is within range. If no signal is present, the issue is most likely with the internal antenna.

Phone doesn't display

Consult this section if you are unable to view the LCD display on the phone; the display is completely black.

Screen damage

  • If screen is dark, verify that keys still light up, indicating that phone successfully turns on.

Broken connection

  • Check that screen is connected to circuit board.

Phone keys don't work

Consult this section if the keypad or cell phone buttons are not properly functioning.

Keypad damage

  • Check that keys still press down.
  • If keys stop working, restart phone and refer back to directions if keys still are not functioning.

Broken connection

  • Check that keypad is connected to circuit board.

Other possibilities

Consult this section if all of the previous sections failed to identify your cell phone issue.

  • Remove back battery completely from phone and locate a white/red sticker which lies under the battery. If this sticker is the color red, water damage has occurred to the phone. This requires the replacement of water sensitive electronic components.
