HP Spectre 13-4002dx Troubleshooting
This troubleshooting page will help you diagnose problems with the HP Spectre Laptop with model number 13-4002dx.
Computer Locks Up/Freezes
Computer freezes after start-up.
Make sure the antivirus software that is on the device is the most current update. If this does not work, download a new virus scanner (AVG AntiVirus FREE), and run the program.
System Lock Up
If your computer freezes during normal operation, then your computer may have just experienced a system lock up. To fix this problem, unplug all devices from the computer including: USB Storage, Media Card Readers, CD Drive, etc. Restart the computer, and see if the problem is fixed.
Keyboard/Keys Are Not Responding
The keyboard is not responding when keys are pressed.
Keys Are Stuck In Place
When keys cannot be pressed without sticking there may be something under the physical key that is pressing up against the bottom of the key. To fix this problem, remove the key and wipe the area underneath. Once cleaned, the key can be snapped back into its original position.
If none of the keys respond to typing, try replacing them with a new keyboard by purchasing a new one.
The computer produces poor audio quality.
Loose Headphone Jack
Test the audio with the headphones first by plugging them into the computer. If the audio is distorted through the headphones, try testing the computer speakers to ensure it is not the computer. If the audio is cutting in and out while using the headphones, the headphone jack is most likely loose. Make sure the headphone jack is completely inserted into the computer.
If the audio coming from the computer is distorted or has traces of static in it, then your speakers may be beginning to fail. The best way to test this is to play audio at differing levels. If the warranty has not passed, you may be able to obtain new speakers from the manufacturer for free. If the speaker is not under warranty, please visit this link on troubleshooting the speakers.
Computer overheats when operating for long period of time.
Dust In Vents Or Fans
Power down the computer by pressing the power button. Unplug the charger from the computer. Wipe or blow out any vents with compressed air. If this does not work, purchase a laptop cooler or cooling pad.
Faulty Laptop Fan
If the internal fan is malfunctioning, this can contribute to the computer overheating. First power down and wait 5 minutes. Next, power back on the computer; place your hand over the laptop’s vent located on the left side of the computer. If there is no air flow, the fan is faulty and a new fan should be ordered and replaced immediately by following this repair guide.
Computer will not charge when plugged in.
Make sure the power cord is plugged into the electrical outlet. Check and make sure the square-shaped AC power adapter connection is secure as well. Plug the connector into the laptop charging port ensuring proper connection.
Check the battery by seeing if it can hold a charge. If not, replace the battery using this repair guide.
Once the other issues stated above have been disregarded as the problem, check the laptop’s power connector. If the connection appears to be firm and the issue is not resolved, then the power jack must be faulty. Consider purchasing a new power jack.
