Distorted or no visuals on screen
The device powers on, but the monitor either displays nothing, or the image is distorted/discolored.
Display driver issues

If the screen is not powering on and there is a blank black screen but there is no signs of physical damage on the screen then the cable may be disconnected or unseated and the computer should be taken apart and checked. Input settings are incorrect

Input driver issues
If you have already determined that the input settings are correct, your device may have outdated or incorrect hardware drivers. Ensure that your device’s drivers are up to date per the manufacturer's instructions.

The device functions normally, but performs normal tasks poorly, or is overloaded by ordinary programs.
Background program configurations on start
Oftentimes, the cause of slow performance is an excessive number of background processes running on system startup. You can view processes currently running in the system performance monitor. Review the programs configured to run on startup in the Control Panel and disable any deemed unnecessary. If you are unsure what a program does, use Google to determine its function.
One possible cause of poor performance is a virus/malware infection hogging your computer's resources. Download a reliable and trusted antivirus/antimalware software and run a scan. If no issues are found, you may have another issue. If issues are found, you can try to remove them yourself, or give your device to a professional for recovery and repair.
If you have already determined that you do not have a virus, you do not have excessive background programs running, and your drive is not damaged, another cause of poor performance is malfunctioning or inadequate quantity of ram. Memory in aging devices deteriorates over time, and modern applications use more memory now than ever. If, during normal operation you receive out of memory messages, try running the windows Memory Diagnostic Tool, and if the tool reports no errors, your memory is inadequate. Upgrade your ram. If there are errors, your memory is damaged. Replace your ram. HP Elitebook 2740p RAM Replacement
HDD or SSD damaged/slow
When he Hard Drive is reaching the end of its lifespan it will become slower and there will be an increase in corrupted data. You may even hear weird noises coming from the disk itself. You will need to replace the HDD with another one or an SSD and migrate all data and the OS to it. HP Elitebook 2740p Hard Drive Replacement

Ethernet cord or port is damaged or used incorrectly
If you are using a wired connection and the internet is not working then there is a problem with either the cable or port. If the port looks damaged it may need to be fixed but otherwise check if the cord is fully clipped in and if it possible try another cord.
